Thank You for Visiting the
Art Inyo Mc Kellips Website.

Art Inyo McKellips passed away, July 26, 2007.

It was an honor and a privilege to know Art, and to create this website to display only a small portion of what Art created over the years.

This website will continue in his memory.

Art is gone, but he will not be forgotten. Carve on, our friend!

Comments:  I lived neighbors to Art McKellips for nearly 10 years, (from 1974 to 1984). He was an outstanding person and wood carver. I recall him participating in the fourth of July parades as a Korean vet, one of the Frozen Chosen heroes of the Korean war. He was a great neighbor and great American. He will be greatly missed. I am now living and working in the Seattle area. Just heard that he passed away last July 26, 2007. He will be greatly missed.

Comments:  When serving in the Army at Ft. Lewis, at the local Mall I stopped by a wood carving exhibit and discovered the Artist was Art McKellips. I told him I also was a McKellips so we had some great talks and visits.
Got to see him for a short time out in Arizona when he came for the winters. Glad to have known him and will always be thankful for Art and his family taking in a "McKellips" soldier on lonely weekends in Washington.

Comments:  My late husband, Michael F. McNamara was born on Sept.13, 1930 in Everett, Washington. I think they must have gone to school together. My son, Dan is a Metal Artist and I admire and appreciate what artists do. I wish I could have met Art. I am from a wheat ranch in Walla Walla, Wash. I think his work is outstanding. Hope I get to see it sometime. Ruth McNamara

Comments:  Because this day is the one month anniversary of Art's passing, I will keep this short. I have become a devoted fan of this artist just since yesterday.
I was rummaging through a Farmers Market, here in Sacramento Ca. yesterday, when I came across a particularly nice wood carving, of an Organ Grinder and monkey. It was signed by Art McKellips, and I could tell right away that it was done by an accomplished artist. So I purchased the curious piece with a personality all it's own and brought it home. I was very excited about the quality of the piece, and decided to Google the name of the artist. Sure enough I was not surprised to find something on the net about him. The world lost a great artist, one month to the day ago. Sincerely, (a Cherokee too), Dan Western

Comments:  Dear Sir,, this gallery of work is fantastic. I have never seen work like it all my life,, could a person, like myself, a 70 year old start whittling, and could I do it with no more than a swiss army knife, blades honed of course. I would truly like to hear from you with some advice, can't think of a better person to ask than a craftsman like yourself. thank you very much for a wonderful hour spent in your company. Sincerely Herbert

Comments: In the early 1970's, we were invited into Art's home to view his work. We purchased "Sherlock" and "Watson", a pair of figures 22-24" tall, even though Art really didn't want to sell them. We were young and broke, but we loved these wonderful pieces and spent the rent money on them. They stand on the large roll-top desk in our den.

We send our condolences to Art's family and friends. His was a life well-lived, honorable and worthy.

Comments: I stumbled on your web site and am amazed! I had heard of you through a cousin, Marsha O'Dell Young. She had shown me some of the family photos that you had copied and sent to her. (Then, she said, she wasn't able to get in touch, anymore) I had no idea that you were an artist, too! It seems that a lot of us who are descended from that branch of the Morris family are talented in art, engineering or mechanics.

It looks like you are really busy with the carving, but if you ever get a chance to talk family history, I would love to listen. I am a grand daughter of Sarah Hettie Morris, and would like to know more about the Osage heritage. Do you have any documentation? I have always heard rumors. Is there any way I could buy copies of your old family photos? It is so easy to scan photos, now, and they could either be printed or put on a CD. I always worry that old photos will be lost from the ones who know and care about the people in them.

Whatever you have to say about that, it is a real pleasure to see your work and read your web pages. I am certainly impressed with your work. Thank you for sharing.

Comments: What an amazing amount of beauty you have added to this world: you with your carving tools and Joyce with her scissors and comb! You have been a steadfast friend for more than 40 years during many of our family's milestones and crossroads and the works of your hands that adorn our humble homes remind us everyday of your love. In between visits I'm always aware that it's been too long! On my next trip to Hillsboro I'll bring a Nativity Set you carved...maybe among your first ones. Congratulations on this beautiful website! Comments: Hi Art;
It's been a long time since we were in sign painting class
at Everett High.(1947 or 1948 I think) Have seen you at various fairs when you were with the state patrol. Joyce & I visited you when you lived in Tacoma; don't remember the exact year, but we went to a picnic near the Tacoma Narrows bridge. My wife Joyce passed away in 1992.I believe she was in the same class at EHS as your wife Joyce was.
Just found your sight & had to say hello. Excellant sight that showcases your carving abilities & gives a great insight into your family history.
