Suicide Race, Omak, WN-This is a picture of the carving before it was finished and painted.

My Cousin Eldon Low was killed in the Construction of Grand Coulee Dam which flooded the original race site. My family, after Grand Dad homesteaded near Ritzville, Washington, have been very familiar with the area. Soap Lake, not to far South and east of the Race site, was a meeting place for all the interior tribes as well as the Homesteaders. No HOSTILITY was tolerated there, even when less than friendly groups arrived at the same time to bathe in the Medicinal Waters .

It's another lake you don't dive into or you'll pop back up feet first like the Great Salt Lake. It has great healing qualities for many injuries and wounds to the skin.

Some modern day people have moved there to "Take the Waters" both in swimming and internally and cannot leave less their symptoms return. The Indians knew nothing of Chemistry, But to them it was very Spiritual, Hence NO BLOOD SHED there. ~~Inyo
